I have a Sony Xperia C with Jellybean and there is no official update for its firmware. Sony gives up on it and won't release any more updates for it.

I need to install some apps that need Android 5.0 at minimum, so I found some custom ROMs that update my phone to 5.0 but after updating using CWM I found it still can't parse any 5.0 app and I get the following error:

"Parse Error: There was a problem parsing the package"

Any other 4.2.2 app is working with no errors so I don't know if I miss something after update or if this ROM is not a real update and it is just a modification to Jellybean.

  • Are you sure that these apps are made for Lollpop, and not for Marshmallow? If yes, did you search for an Android 5.1.1 custom ROM? – Death Mask Salesman Feb 10 '17 at 7:42
  • May be a factory reset may solve the problem. – esQmo_ Feb 10 '17 at 10:07
  • I'm very sure that it's only a 4.2 ROM with build.prop modded to make it say 5.x. MediaTek phones rarely get major version updates, and no MT6589 phones I know of got 5.x. – Andy Yan Feb 10 '17 at 14:05
