My Samsung A5 (2017) running Android 6.0.1 takes pictures on it's own every 2 minutes when the front camera is turned on. If I turn the main camera on it starts recording every 2 minutes. I noticed it yesterday, and reset the device.

Now it instead closes both front and back camera after 2 minutes and goes to the homescreen. I haven't noticed any battery loss at all.

So now I wonder, is it a defect in the camera or is someone spying on me?

  • try to clear cache of camera and check. – Rahul Gopi Aug 21 '17 at 15:39
  • @RahulGopi a factory-reset (which OP did) covers that already. To me that rather sounds like some malware having managed to install itself as system app. // Sofie: please clarify how it started. Have you installed something lately? Accepted some strange popups? What happens if you put the device into airplane mode (the malware couldn't send the images then)? Any additional traffic you've noticed (telling you something uploads those images)? – Izzy Aug 21 '17 at 18:49
  • I'm beting on that just camera went nuts. If camera closes after 2 minutes of inactivity that isn't problem, but if it takes pictures than it was probably bug where instead of exiting it triggered taking photo – Једноруки Крстивоје Aug 22 '17 at 0:18
