My grandmother has a Motorola Droid Maxx 2 running Android 6.0.1 and she would like to disable chat heads entirely, for text messages and Messenger. A preliminary search through her notification settings, Google, and this site yielded no results. How can she do this?

  • In Messenger, click on your profile button on the top right. Scroll down to the "Chat Heads" setting and toggle it off. – beeshyams Dec 25 '17 at 17:03

  • @beeshyams Where are these three dots? – Zenon Dec 25 '17 at 21:12
  • In the screen where you see SMS, on the top right hand corner having SMS notifications. – beeshyams Dec 26 '17 at 0:53

There should be a menu called "Advanced Features". Tap on that and then you will find something about smart pop-ups. Find the messaging app and disable it from there.

On my Samsung A50:

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

NOTE: This is for Facebook Messenger only.

First: Open the Messenger app.

Second: Tap the wrench icon on the top - right.

Third: Click the option: "Chat Heads"

Fourth: Turn it off with the switch.

  • This does not attempt to answer the question. It's merely a copy of a comment. I'm looking to disable chat heads for text messages in particular, but the tip about Facebook Messenget that @beeshyams provided definitely helps too. – Zenon Dec 25 '17 at 18:44
  • What do you mean by "text messages"? – Axiumin_ Dec 25 '17 at 18:56
  • SMS/MMS text messages sent via cell towers – Zenon Dec 25 '17 at 19:12
