I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 2015 (A500F) with broken screen and digitizer. The phone is simply locked (no password or pattern used) but I cannot scroll down to unlock in order to access the file system. I tried flashing a custom recovery (TWRP) in Ubuntu, MacOS and windows using Heimdall and Odin but they all fail to flash the rom. In Odin I get not errors. The Heimdall detects the phone in download mode but cannot retrieve the pit and it fails with an libusb error -7 to which I found no documentation, just some gh issues saying it is usb 3 that causing incompatibility.

I have also checked some issues for other phones (S4, S5) but I cannot get an answer. Is there any way to retrieve the data without flashing recovery or do I have to focus on solving the libusb issue?

  • Welcome to Android Enthusiasts! As this is a quite frequent question (recovering data from a device with a broken screen), have you already checked with our broken-screen tag-wiki – especially with the "Data Recovery" section at its end? – Izzy Mar 12 '18 at 11:08
