I want to change the wallpaper on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge's stock launcher (Samsung Launcher) but it fails. I can change the themes, but not the wallpaper. When I try to change it from System's Settings or Samsung Themes, I press the "Set wallpaper" button, but nothing happens. When I try to do it from Gallery, it says "Unable to load photo".

I've checked that Samsung Themes have Storage permission, tried clearing the cache, clearing the default app, but it still fails.

How to fix this issue?

  • Just try with installing Google's wallpaper app, open and set using it. Or press and hold on any blank space in home screen, select wallpaper and select image, set it as home screen, lock screen, or both. (Inside wallpaper setting from home screen, you can move to Google's wallpaper from there and set). – Rahul Gopi Jun 18 '18 at 3:17

Use file explorer like es explorer/Solid explorer. There you can get the option to use picture as wallpaper.

  • The option would appear after long-pressing the image file. Also, ES File Explorer is dead. – Firelord May 14 '19 at 17:11

You have Media Storage disabled. This is why this is happening. Enable it and the phone will be able to load your images and set your wallpapers again.

Go to Settings - Apps - Click Show System Apps (top right) - Scroll to Media Storage and click Enable.

I will recommend you hard reset your phone as it will turn your phone to its default state. Make sure you backup your phone first.

We don't generally recommend the "nuclear option" first, without exploring the more accessible remediation. – wbogacz Jun 18 '18 at 2:16
