Because the security updates will probably end soon, I am looking for a Custom Rom to install onto my S7 Edge.

I am looking for a way to preserve the stock camera quality. Is there a way to do that, and if so, what would it be?

  • Do you have the option to stick with the stock experience? In my most humble opinion, even losing security updates and being a little out of date trumps any custom ROM offering in terms of security. You are not stepping up your security by moving to a custom ROM, especially since doing so requires root privileges. – CzarMatt Oct 17 '18 at 18:19
  • @CzarMatt Wouldn't that issue be resolved by being careful with giving out Root? Or are there many viruses/exploits that can use privilege escalation? Also, as soon as something like BlueBorne pops up again, then I would say the risk of accidently giving root permissions is lower than anyone nearby being able to take controll of my phone. – DottyPhone Oct 17 '18 at 19:10
  • @DottyPhone While sticking with the stock firmware might be wise for now, new vulnerabilities are bound to be found as time passes and, unless you'll run a custom ROM, your system's security will be outdated by then. Moreover, root privileges are as dangerous as how weak is the app that acts as a gatekeeper for them. As far as I know, LineageOS' own root app seems to have no obvious flaws, for instance. – Death Mask Salesman Oct 17 '18 at 19:29
  • @DeathMaskSalesman I see. That means that I should switch at some point. Lineage OS doesn't seem to support the Stock camera though, meaning I would loes out on image quality. Is there a recommended ROM for samsung phones so that they keep the stock app? – DottyPhone Oct 17 '18 at 19:44
  • @DottyPhone That I don't know. In fact, I upvoted your question because I myself wish for an answer. – Death Mask Salesman Oct 17 '18 at 19:56
