I try to connect my Volkswagen navigation system with my Sony Xperia XZ1 (Android version 9, Build 47.2.A.306).

My navigation system says "Connected", my Xperia also show "1 device connected" but when the navigation system tries to load map or traffic data (or if I start an app on it) I get error "No internet connection"

What I tried so far:

  • Deleted stored connection, used another SSID and password -> no success
  • Making a "hard reboot" of my phone -> no success
  • Use WiFi tethering and connect with my laptop -> working fine
  • Put my SIM card into an old Android phone -> working fine

So, my mobile subscription provides internet connection and in general the WiFi tethering on my phone is working.

Does anybody know what could be the problem? Maybe some kind of "tethering firewall" or missing permissions or data limit settings. I looked around but I did not find anything what could block the internet connection.

Is there any app which monitors/analyze the WiFi Hotspot connections/traffic?

Update It seems to be an issue with Android 9, other faced it also but no solution yet: https://piunikaweb.com/2018/08/22/google-pixel-2-users-report-hotspot-tethering-issues-after-android-9-pie/
