tl;dr: Unable to pickup or end most of the calls (totally black screen) after upgrading my not-rooted Moto Z2 from Android 7.1 to 8.0. Anything that I can do (except for sending phone to repair shop)?

I have purchased my Motorola Moto Z2 Play in October 2018 and it came with Android 7.1. Nougat. Recently, it was sent to repair and upon return it turned out that it was also upgraded to 8.0 Oreo.

Ever since receiving back my phone / ever since that upgrade I am unable to answer most of the calls, because for 8 incoming calls out of ten I see a completely black screen:

Shaking the phone in any directions, pressing Power button or volume buttons -- all for nothing and brings no resolution. I have to wait until incoming call is terminated by a caller and call back.

I have exactly the same problem when trying to end received or placed call. I put the phone from my ear back to my hand and instead of call details, caller photo and end button I see a black screen. Again, I can't do anything and I have to wait until caller itself terminates the call.

I remember my wife having exactly the same problems on Moto E3, but from the very beginning (thus on Android 6.0) with no correlation to some kind of system update. It was then related to incorrectly working accelerometer / gyroscope -- if I am not mistaken -- and was resolved by sending phone to a repair.

Is there anything that I can do (i.e. system downgrade to 7.1, if possible) except sending my phone back to repair shop a week after receiving it from there?

The phone is not rooted and I'd like to avoid rooting it as much as it is possible.
