I have root access on my Android device, and I don't want to use second-part applications like AppLock to block Youtube app. Is there a way to prevent youtube app from launching by my child. I have set whitelist in "YouTube Kids" app, so he can watch only selected videos, but my son is small and smart, so he installs Youtube and watches his stupid videos in this app :) I tried to set chmod 000 to "/data/app/com.google.android.youtube-*", but the application disappeared from the home screen, so after reinstall it could be launched as before.

  • Does your kid know the pin/password for your device? If not, give the youtube kids app and screen pin it. Alternatively, you can use setup a kiosk app to lockdown the device so that only few selected apps are accessible. Ideally, you should setup a secondary account for your kid and have youtube regular removed from it. I don't think secondary account users van install apps, though I am not fully sure here. – Firelord Aug 13 '19 at 8:47
  • Its Android 6, so there are not so many internal features like allowed app and so on. I asked about chmod. Is there a way to block youtube launching? chmod 444 (r--r--r--) did not help. – Jon Aug 13 '19 at 12:00
  • su -c "mkdir -p /data/app/com.google.android.youtube-1/base.apk /data/app/com.google.android.youtube-2/base.apk" – alecxs Aug 15 '19 at 12:11
  • Nice try, but I still could be reinstalled. Thank you, but it seems, that Android 6 does not have any way to block it. – Jon Aug 16 '19 at 14:45
