I have Android One on a Xiaomi Mi A2, and I have DuckDuckGo as a default broweser.

I recently opened 1 link on a youtube video bio and it redirected me to Chrome, and all the other links there all sent me to chrome.

But then i copied the link, pasted it in a message to myself in Facebook Messenger and when i clicked there to open it, it redirected me to DuckDuckGo instead.

I tried disabling Chrome and when i open the link on youtube video bio it says "Sorry, cannot open this link" but if i open the SAME link on Facebook Messenger it opens in DDG with no problem.

Can someone help me on this one? How do I make ALL links to open on DDG(except links to other apps)?

  • If YouTube app explicitly calls its sister app Chrome, nothing can be changed. May be some Xposed module can insert hooks in between the both. – Irfan Latif Dec 12 '19 at 18:55

ADDITIONAL INFO i tried the same on an Android 6.0 and Waterfox instead of DDG. With chrome disabled, clicked the link in the youtube video bio and it went directly to Waterfox – Pedro Parreira Dec 12 '19 at 19:17
  • Check Chrome's app info, there should be a section called "Open by default", then check if "Clear defaults" is enabled or not (since that means Android remembers that some URLs are associated with Chrome) – Andrew T. Dec 13 '19 at 3:15
  • @AndrewT. Chrome has "No defaults set.", cannot click the "CLEAR DEFAULTS". And DDG is set as Deafult Browser app. – Pedro Parreira Dec 13 '19 at 19:09
  • Does it happen with links in all YouTube video descriptions? Or some special links? – singhnsk Dec 17 '19 at 14:28
