Is there really no way to see disk activity by per app/thread on Android OS? A tablet (android 5.0.1) gets very laggy at times, especially on startup. I can see its because of high disk activity but I don't know which apps responsible. I searched everywhere but cant see any way how to determine which apps are the culprits. The only solution seems to be a script called iotop, which needs an IO accounting supported kernel (heard that most kernels dont have this) on a rooted device.

Appreciate insights, thank you.

  • Android 8 introduced /proc/uid_io/stats as part of storaged implementation. Before that you can only track per PID I/O activity. If you know a way to achieve this on other *NIXes the same approach can be tried here. – Irfan Latif Dec 21 '19 at 17:46
