I have two Ubuntu machines, a laptop and a tower. ADB works on the tower but not on the laptop. I'm using the same Android device on each, with the same adbkey and adbkey.pub. On my tower, ADB works - I can access the shell, etc. However, the moment I plug the device into my laptop, I get the "Allow USB debugging?" popup on the Android device. This is a problem because this device is non standard hardware with no touchscreen, so I have no way of clicking Yes. How can I troubleshoot this and get ADB working on my laptop?

The device is running Android 5.1.1.

This was due to missing udev rules on my laptop which I'd forgotten I'd set up on my tower. You can find information on setting up udev rules elsewhere, but I'll post the exact steps I took here (which I got from my company's internal help wiki - remember we use weird hardware, so I can't guarantee this will work in all cases).

Create a file at /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules with the following contents:

Then run:

sudo chmod 644 /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
sudo chown root. /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
sudo service udev restart
sudo killall adb

Disconnect and reconnect the device physically, then start using adb.
