I have Pixel 4a 5G and I am seeing duplicate folders in my File Manager apps (even in Files by Google app). This started like 6 months ago and I was ignoring it. At that point, I had Android 11. I'm on Android 12 Beta now and the issue persists. This seems to happen only for the default Android folders. "Memes" is a folder I manually created, so there is no duplicate for it. Even though the duplicate ones say 0 items, it deletes both the folders when I delete one (learned it hard way). Tried restarting the phone, deleted and installed the file manager apps again, doesn't seem to fix it. I do not see the duplicate folders in Windows Explorer when I connect my phone to my laptop for File Transfer. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Are there any fixes other than a factory reset? I hate to download all the apps and configure them again.

Which file manager is shown on the screen shots (please app package name or provide store link). Do you also see the duplicate folder via USB file-transfer mode (MTP protocol) when connected to a PC?

  • As I mentioned, the duplicate folders do not appear in Windows Explorer when connected to PC, but on my phone they are duplicated in any File Manager app. The one on the left is Simple File Manager Pro (play.google.com/store/apps/…) and the one on the right is "Files by Google". Oct 15 at 12:18
  • May be Windows Explorer automatically merges folders of same name? You can try to reset the Android media database and see if it changes something: android.stackexchange.com/a/202739/2241
