Seems like it saves the data such as SMS/MMS on my Google Drive and encrypts the data with "the phone's screen lock". I guess one can the in-built feature to restore the whole data to the phone after it is reset or something, but if I want to view and extract only some of the data. Is that possible? Of course, assume that I know the screen lock.

Say, the phone was using a pattern lock. And I want to retrieve only some SMS messages from the back up in Google Drive, can I do that? How can I decode the data with a patter lock, that is not a textual password.

Or is it impossible because the backup format is proprietary and only Google can do that?
