I have been using this feature every day and It suddenly became impossible for me to double-tap the phone to wake it up.
It's running Android 7.1.1 and ColorOS v3.2.
Still, I have Gesture & Motion -> Screen-off Gestures -> Double Tap to Turn Screen On as enabled.
