Sorry for this stupid question, but I'm struggling to do such a basic thing as to configure notifications settings for incoming SMS on Pixel 5 (Android 13).

I want to silence all notifications for all senders from the Messages app (e.g. I want to continue receiving notifications in the notifications shade, but without sound or vibration).

When I open Messages Settings -> Notifications I have following options:

  • All Messages notifications - completely disables notifications, including the shade
  • Conversations section - allows to configure each sender individually
  • All 'Default settings' notifications - completely disables notifications, including the shade
  • Incoming messages - once I configured this to 'Silent' it worked for a while, but then android started creating individual setting for some senders with 'Default' settings (sound on)
  • settings for some senders - allows to configure each sender individually

Settings -> Default notification sound - this also affects other applications.

Can I turn off 'per-sender' settings and configure it once for the whole app (for any sender)?
Now I have to click through each incoming number, and configure it individually. And for the new numbers android sometimes creates new sections, with sound switched on, so I have to configure them again.

Most answers I find online describe how to do the opposite.
