This question already has an answer here:

When I configure the alarm on my Android phone, if I turn the phone off, it does not turn on when the time comes.

My most basic featurephones had this feature, surely Android can do it as well, no? Otherwise, what would be the technical limitations?

This is not a feature of Android. Android has no way of turning on, if you have turned it off, turning a smart phone is a specific serious of events. – Ramhound Jan 15 '14 at 22:24
  • I didn't know this and this indeed is a very useful feature! I guess android behaves like a PC in a way that it requires hardware signal to wake up from shut down state.. – tumchaaditya Jan 15 '14 at 23:08
