  • What is the question here? You said it yourself, Java is used in Android programming. Also C++ can be used. There are also ways to run Python and other programming languages.

As mentioned on it's Wikipedia page, Android's core is developed in C and C++, and Java is used for the UI. You can see this for yourself if you browse the Android source code. For example, omapzoom.org provides the source for browsing without the need to downloads gigabytes of data.

As you told in question itself, Android is Linux based.

So obviously the core is developed using C.

On top of this, Java is used for UI (ie: Android).

The Android platform is made up of a number of different components. It includes core applications such as Contacts, a set of APIs to help you control what your app looks and how it behaves, and a whole load of supporting files and libraries.

Android is built on top of linux kernel which is essentially made of C, C++. All the methods and functions and essentially everything on the screen is written in java. Therefore for developing an app on android, all you need is the knowledge of java and an idea for an app.

Kotlin is now an official language on Android. It's expressive, concise, and powerful. So, you can also use kotlin for developing android apps
