I'm using a Nexus 4. When I play music from the Play music app, the full screen lock screen music controls or music art will not show, only the lock screen shows, as if I am not playing music at all.

I do have doubleTwist installed (wanted to try it) but I have the doubleTwist lock screen controls off.

How can I get lock screen controls back?

  • What if you uninstall doubleTwist?

I had this problem - to resolve it, play a track with Google Play and lock your tablet. You should notice the new lock screen with album art is now present.

Now, quit Google Play etc. and go back to using (the excellent) doubleTwist. You should find doubleTwist's "now playing" track appears on the lock screen just like Google Play.

I suspect Google Play starts a background service enabling this new feature. Hopefully an update to doubleTwist will do the same in future - but I'm just guessing.

  • His problem is that when he plays a track with Play Music, the lockscreen controls don't show. Feb 5 '14 at 7:26

I had this problem too. To fix it, I made it so my notifications are NOT private on the lock screen (someone can read them). You should be able to play music then, assuming you are not caring much for privacy ;)

If privacy is an issue, then you can either:

  1. Use a third-party lock screen (which may or may not allow music control from the lock screen, it varies)
  2. Hide notifications by disabling it for the ones with private info (though you may miss messages, etc)
    1. Put up with it! :)
