I have Google Nexus 5. My Whatsapp contacts are not deleting.

When I am trying to delete the contact from People (Contact App) it shows the error message "You can't delete contacts from read-only accounts, but you can hide them in your contacts lists"

I deleted the contacts from my Google account but I am able to see those contacts in Whatsapp.

you might be having merged contact which you are trying to delete. To delete the whatsapp from the contact, you would have to delete the contact from phone list and then delete the contact from whatsapp. Obvisouly, you and again save the numbers in the contact list.

  • actually the contacts were saved in simcard memory, because of that it was not getting deleted. I deleted contacts from simcard memory. then deleted contacts from whats app. Now ts fine – user53364 Feb 24 '14 at 5:36
  • @user53364 If that solved your problem you should post it as an answer. – SarpSTA Mar 1 '16 at 10:55

You could do one thing: copy the number from your phone contact and add it to the whatsapp contact. Thereby, you wouldn't lose the contact.

All you have to do is open your phone contact, long press the number part until you see copy to clipboard then copy the number, open your WhatsApp contact, press edit, there you'll see a button "Add another field". Press that and select "Phone", paste your number, delete your phone contact and voila.

  • Next time, please avoid chat speak (u, ur, ull), excessive punctuation (....), and use proper capitalization. Post with severe formatting won't be useful, and it hurts readers' eyes. – Andrew T. Apr 17 '15 at 9:30

it is better to uninstall Whatsapp and delete the contact and then reinstall. Alternatively, patch Whatsapp with lucky patcher.
