I've downloaded the italian translate package for android, the voice recognition does not work offline. i get the error message "no connection for speech input (E4)"

the following work-around does not work Open Google Translate > Settings > Speech Input Italian would be set to Default Dialect. Just set it to Italian (Italy)

there is no option for italian dialect in the menu.

The setting is available in Google Translate app: Open Google Translate > Settings > Speech Input Italian would be set to Default Dialect. Just set it to Italian (Italy) (or the corresponding option) and re-check.

I had the same issue. I tried various suggestions. What eventually fixed it for me was to go into the android Settings - Language And Input - Voice Input.

There is Enhanced and Basic recognition. On basic recognition I could used the app offline. As you would expect the basic recognition did not work nearly as well as the enhanced.

Hope that helps you out...

I have a Nexus 5 running Marshmallow and was getting this same E4 error while attempting to translate from Italian to English with voice offline. I downloaded the two languages for offline operation within the Google Translate application, but still got the E4.

To resolve, I opened Settings/Language & input/Google voice typing/Offline speech recognition, selected the "All" tab and then downloaded Italian.
