Caller ID (or CLI, CND, CLIP), is a service that transmits a caller's number to the called party's telephone equipment during the ringing signal, or when the call is being set up but before the call is answered.

Can I still get caller ID in Gingerbread without having it as a service from my provider?
That option doesn't give or take the ability to see other people callerID, it only let's you choose whether the people you're calling see your callerID or not.
