Ended-up flashing the old firmware (links on xda) and redoing the OTA upgrade. Worked fine this time, which makes me think the first OTA file was munged. Doesn't AT&The have any error-checking built-in to their upgrade script?!

The hex value you found in the wpa_supplicant.conf is the PMK (not the PSK directly but some intermediate value computing the PSK or something like this).
