The "Team Win Recovery Project" provides an alternative Custom-Recovery.
What is TWRP?
Here's how the project describes itself:
TeamWin Recovery Project, or twrp for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features that we deemed missing from current recoveries.

Other than the classical, hardware-key driven ClockworkMod, TWRP offers you a touch-based interface – which of course is much more convenient to use and offers more flexibility as well (you certainly can see that by above screenshot). Still you should keep in mind: in case you break your screen's touch interface, you might wish you'd better used the former, which just depends on three hardware keys to operate (power, volume-up, volume-down).
