USB Drivers are required on the PC/Mac that you wish to plug your smartphone into for proper detection of the phone.
If you wish to do more than just use your smartphone as a storage device connected to your PC/Mac or just for charging, a USB Driver for your model of phone has to be installed on the computer so they can communicate.
