@beeshyams - thanks, it seems to be resolved now, and should it happen again I'll try clearing cache. Still trying to understand what could be happening and how to avoid if possible...
Have you tried clearing Play Store cache and/or uninstalling Play Store updates? Worked for me. Posting as comment because I don't know if you've done this already
