On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

I am Vipul Gautam aka Firelord here. I want to be a Moderator for this community.

I have been here since 2015 and have contributed prolifically here. I have posted 540+ answers, 37 questions and was first to get Unsung Hero badge (tenacity).

Site moderation statistics:

  1. Aside from having regular moderation badges, I am inspired by these two legends: user76613 and user10913, with regard to keeping the site clean, and rocks 3750+ valid flags in my name.
  2. Initially inspired by editing of Andrew T., Matthew Read and eldarerathis, I now have 1300+ editing score.
  3. Voting helps in quality control a lot and made me the second most highest voter.

Why choose me?

I am good with ordinary moderation and decision making, and I want to take it to a new level. I also have a good nose for detecting spam and plagiarism. I have been instrumental in bringing policy-level issues on Meta and often helps out there. I frequent site's chat room. I am in UTC+05:30. And I am reasonably welcoming to others.

My answer.

I started participating on Android.SE since Oct '14 and Stack Exchange overall since Sept '13 (on Stack Overflow). From experience on SO, I started answering questions here and also trying to moderate the site as possible as I could with the earned privileges (voting, flagging, editing, and close voting), because I loved this site.

However, I have to admit, I took a break since Aug '16. One reason was due to a real-world personal matter. Another reason, honestly, was due to feeling powerless to moderate the site while low-quality posts have been overwhelming.

Meanwhile, I moved to Anime.SE since Jan '17 and managed to earn all privileges (including delete voting) and have been exercising the tools wisely

Some might ask why I did not run on the previous election, and why now. At that time, I was still unsure if I was mature enough to hold mod powers. Now, however, after participating on 3 different SE sites long enough with their own flavor, I feel this election is the call for me to move forward,

I'm ready to serve for the best of this community

I live in UTC+7 and will try to check this site daily.

I joined this community just about three years ago. Eventually, it became a dominating part of my on-line life.

Initially, this community for me was all about gaining reputation. Now , reputation doesn’t excite me . Along the way, I started contributing to the site . I got involved in exercising privileges accorded at various milestones and I am pleasantly surprised to see that I have ticked all the boxes - candidate score 40/40 . I am nominating myself as an additional step in this direction.

My approach to moderation is based on the fact that we are all volunteers here ; volunteers come with their own attitude and baggage - nudge and prod when required, use heavy guns only when really called for – in other words, low key moderation.

Moderation calls for commitment of time and I am somewhat constrained by the amount of time I can spare, though current moderators have assured me, it's enough. If elected, will optimize with other mods to minimize impact. But this needs to be stated and understood.
