Why do apps stop supporting older Android versions after some time?
Also, if you can't support newer features on older platforms, then you will be getting reviews from people who can't enjoy those newer features. They may even complain in the reviews about their absence.

I get no ping repsonse to my phone. Why?
Was that the same IP address your phone had locally? If not (which is very highly likely), you're behind NAT and won't get unsolicited packets.
